4.8is DSP subwoofer upgrade: I'm ready...

My subwoofer does exactly that: provides sub-woofed sounds, but very little mid-bass which is what I like.

I'm contemplating the following:
a. replacing the drivers and retrofitting an aftermarket Mosfet amp + a gain control to better pull some mid-bass out of my music.

b. Replace the whole thing with a custom box, single 10" woofer, amp, gain control.

Anyone venture in this direction??

Mark

Hey do you know Frisco Jarretts? He's outside of the Austin area and he's restoring a Carlson CVX18?

If you want more mids, I would start with the doors, not the sub...the factory speakers aren't exactly what one would call stellar.

well, I want non-drone-y bass...mid-bass but mid-bass from a 8 or 10" woofer.

Door tweeters are pretty weak, mids sound ok: is there a write-up on replacing door speakers?? I have no clue how these things come apart.

Bsw has complete packages that, I think, will give you what your after. They also have (or use to) videos that were basically a walk through on how to install their upgrades.

What ^ he said. BSW Stage 1 will give you what you are looking for and then some. That's the route I went and do not regret it.

I've always found infinity door speakers to be great budget replacements for DSP equipped BMWs. BSW, while a bit more, sounds amazing compared to stock as well (atleast in a 540 which is where I heard it).

I agree that starting with door speakers is the smartest bet. I threw my sub in because I bought it local on impulse and was bored but I'd definitely do door speakers first.

Porsche, be careful with the audio upgrades. I speak from experience. It started with a $1500 upgrade and now I'm at at $9K and counting. It becomes an addiction. It sounds amazing but as you listen more and more you will hear where the holes are. The BSW upgrade is a great compromise. You would be surprised how adding a sub and aftermarket power to the stock highs and mids will do for sound. Clean power is everything. Good luck.
