Code Interpretation
Here recently the Service Engine Soon light came on. I checked the codes and got the following codes: After Cat O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Cyl# 4-6 After Cat Fuel trim system Cyl# 4-6 O2 Sensor adaptation limit Cyl# 1-3 O2 Sensor adaptation limit Cyl# 4-6 Misfire Cyl# 6 I am certainly not a certified mechanic but to me this sounds like there are atleast 2 or 3 O2 sensors that need to be replaced. My wife who is the primary driver (lucky dog) says if she didnt see the light on she wouldnt thing there was a thing wrong with it. Ohh and our X5 has got a touch over 155K on the clock. Thanks ahead of time!!!!!

sounds more of a dead spark plug, when unburnt fuel just gets out the cylinder... did you or your wife hear any backfiring? fuel in cat will destroy the cat... could be that cylinder 6 was first to go off line and the rest just followed... i wonder what the experts will say...

No backfiring. I would assume that if fuel was in the cat or exhaust for that matter the exhaust might smell like the engine was running rich but it doesnt. Never backfired or anything. We dont take many trips longer than about 20 or 30 minutes in it and since we got it, its been getting pretty solid 18.2 mpg even with my wifes heavy foot on the gas.
Either was i am making a call to the stealer to get it in next week to get fixed.

before going to a dealer, clear the codes and see if they come back... you already wrote the codes down, so you should be able to tell the mech what you have. on the come back (if there will be a comeback of the codes) you might get more, less or the same number of codes... this may give more information about the engine's condition...
and one more thing - the car is out of warranty - taking it to the dealer is a financial suicide... dealers do not repair things, they replace modules, a lot of times they misdiagnose the issue and start throwing parts into the car until it fixes itself... well, you guessed right, at your expense... ask me and half of the people on this forum, how we know... lol see if there is a good indy in your area, take the car to him... |
