Headlight lense removed, now how to get projector bowl out?

Hi all,

I've managed to remove front lense cover from the headlight of my e53, now how do i get the projector bowl out?
Need to either get a new projector bowl or re-chrome dip it as the light discharge is dull at some spots.

Thanks

What year are we talking about. Facelift e53's used hella e55 projectors which cannot be separated easily. I'd suggest just looking for a new projector instead.

Strange, maybe i think i know where the problem is. Looks like there are 3 pieces to the headlight ...... might need to go back to the oven for more baking .

You're gonna have to remove that black shroud in the front to get access to the projector mounting screws.

So I'll need to re-heat right?

Anyhow, pic to illustrate how many part are there to an X5 headlight (there are more but i left them aside).

Why one of my headlight was so dull?

At first, i thought it was the bulb so i swapped the other side over yet it's still dull.

So i then move on to the 2nd suspect, the ballast. Again, swapped them around ..... result? Dull.

At the end, i asked around, on E46 forum and someone suggested that the projector bowl might have been burnt out ..... and yes, it's not really burnt out but water might have gotten into it at some stage ...... pic to show what has happened.
