Is there a way to stop the wipers mid way through their cycle?

I turn the wipers on and when they are mid stroke on the windshield I shut off the car. You are then able to pull them away.

That's what I do now, but why did they designed the wiper like that? All the cars I owned before allows you to just pull the wipers away from the windshield.

I think they changed on E70. You can pull them away.

i think i saw somewhere in the programming, that the wipers can be stopped vertically instead of horizontally? or, was it to finish the travel once the engine is off?... i don't remember, but if anyone is looking at the file now, you can tell us...
and yeah, this is clearly an oversight |

the wipers are down below the hood for aero dynamics I would assume. most of there cars the wipers are down below the hood now,
but yes you can stop them mid cycle just by turning off the key. not sure on the programming that was spoken of, we cannot do that at the dealer level.

would be interested if you could find the programming line for this if it exists, sounds just like the feature on my old 2008 VW GLI when you turned the key off and flicked the stalk down once it popped the wipers up to vertical and they stayed there. Volkswagen calls it "putting wipers in service position"

My kid got a hold of my XP machine, so i am in process of recovering the computer... however, the recovery disks that came with the computer years ago somehow installed Win 7... i am downloading the online backup back into the comp - takes forever, but i am not sure if the bmw products will work on this computer now... i am just keeping my fingers crossed...
