Exhaust Note

Hey guys, Im curious what everybody is doing to get a nice low exhaust note out the back end of the 4.4's. I did a complete dual exhaust on my e39 where I had to cut out part of the spare tire well to get a second muffler in there and the sound is great. I am hoping that the X is a little easier. I have read a few things about X pipes but unsure about it, i would like it to remain reasonably quiet inside but hear it when its stepped on. I am always getting comments about how my e39 doesnt sound like a BMW but like an old muscle car, would kinda like to duplicate the same with the X.

I put Magnaflow Cats, put a Magnaflow X pipe in place of silencer and I used the stock mufflers. Looks and sounds great, but not obnoxious.
