Removing front seats

I want to remove silly all weather mat anchors that are attached to the front seat rails. I am wondering if need to disconnect the battery if i want to remove just the front bolts on the rails and lift the seat a bit to remove the anchors?

I tried the search, but for whatever reason any multiple word search comes up with a white page

This disk can be completely removed by unsrewing it just as you would unscrew a screw.

You replace this disk with the one you received for the liners by screwing it in where you took the carpet velcro disk out.

The hook portion of the disk for the liner shoub be facing towards the back of the car (or facing the seats) so that the liner can be attached in the hooks and prevent it sliding forward towards the pedals.

I hope this makes sense.

sorry, i should have been clearer, i have metal hooks that are attached to the rail, not the plastic ones that go into the floor(actually these are the ones i want to install). My truck came with these silly metal hooks that suppose to provide better anchoring for the mats, but they have already ripped one and will rip the other one shortly if i don't remove it... i'll take a picture tomorrow and post it up here.... I have never seen this on any bmws in the past, but i was told by the dealer they came standard on X5s here in Canada... i find that hard to believe...anyways i want to remove them, but i am not sure if i need to disconnect the battery as i am not sure if tilting the seat might trigger the airbags to deploy...

No no no you shouldmt be woried about tilting the seat doing anything. In the shop we have never disconnected the battery when plying around with seats. All you have to do is just unplug the connector to tilt it back. And it will not set off any airbags because you tilted the seat.

You don't even have to unplug the seat...there's more than enough length on the harness to safely tilt the seat back enough to get the front hooks out. You just have to get it above the front studs (~1/2" or so).

Interesting looking metal anchor. Never seen anything like it before. Do you have BMW oe mats?

The normal plastic anchor is also in your pic, already screwed down into the floor. To remove that, just give it a 1/4 turn to release it from what ever it latches to in the floor pan, and you should be able to pull it up to insert whichever type of mat anchor you're now going to use.

These are the BMW mat anchors I'm used to (velcro type for carpet mats and the "T" type used with some of the oe rubber mats):

(e38 7 series oe rubber floor mat & anchors)

(e39 rubber oe mat and floor anchor)
