BMW's rust( I know it's a bad word) warranty?

Ok so im still getting used to my new X and it has had it's moments in the last 2 months i have had it. The thing looks great but has a small amount of rust in the hem at the corner of the drivers door. This can only be seen with the door open , looking in. It's not rusted through and there is nothing on the outside of the panel. This is probably an inch to two inch spot. I know the factory says it has a 144 month rust warranty. It's a 2005 so im well within that window. Has anyone dealt with BMW on this? Do they repair under warranty or are there hidden costs? Thanks

If I understand correctly, warranty only covers if there's a perforation caused by rust.Surface rust will be rejected.

Go to the dealer and fight for it. On 2005s there is an 10 year warranty??. I had rust on my rear door in the same place, unfortunately my warranty was shorter. Cost me 600 for both rears to be repaired.

Looks like it is weak spot, got exactly the same at same place (driver side internal door bottom - i'm also looking for the repairs (did not go to the $tealers yet) i think it is an easy fix (sand, primer, bmw paint). I will start the oil protectors all bottom and door at the garage.

Just had same thing noticed on 2006 X5. Have 114000 mile. Went to dealer and he said he has seen on a couple other X5 s and BMW will cover. Said they will replace the door not repair!

Rust did not penetrate the out side, but had split the weld/seam inside lower portion.

BMW will do much more "goodwill" rust repairs if the X has been to the dealer for oil changes and sched 1 & 2 services. This is due to the fact that part of the service is an inspection of the vehicle, if issues are found they MUST be repaired soon in order to keep the rust warranty active.

The point I'm making is, if you or prior owners have not taken the vehicle to a BMW service center for years the service manager may choose not to repair the rust. It's in black and white in the warranty literature.

Good point, I had my X5 in one year ago as I went of extended warranty to have it checked out for any issues to repair on warrenty. I also had had all other maintenance done at the dealer. I have a 535xi also I have serviced there, and doesn't hurt to know the service manager on a first name basis.
