Agreed. I also have a 3.0 diesel sport. Love it. aIso mever thought I'd buy a diesel, but it is really good. Great economy (Melbourne to Adelaide without stopping). Noise is low inside comprased to same year pajeros etc.
Engine does seem robust. Other bits like suspension and tranny still wear out but the oil burner seems great.

For the same price range, all the petrols I drove seemed very tired compared to my diesel at the same kms and $.

The only thing is the misses is not a fan of filling up with diesel
I prefer it! Smells better and doesn't stink your hands like petrol does.

I'm just waiting to hear back on a 03 black 4.4 with 130000k on it....
If successfull I can then sell my patrol which will be bitter sweet I guess....

I bought a pair of garden gloves from Bunnings and leave them in the door bucket to use when filling the car up. Those diesel pumps are generally soaked in diesel and grease so the gloves keep the hands clean. A small price to pay for the savings you get running a diesel X5 over a V8.

When I bought my X5, it came down to the head saying to get a diesel, but the heart wanted a V8.

Sure it costs a bit more at the pump, but man I love driving a V8.
