Start-up hard shift problem
I'm a long time reader but first time poster. I have a 2006 X5 4.4i with just under 80K miles. I purchased the car used in Jan 09 with about 46K miles. Recently I've noticed that the truck shifts hard out of first when cold but then doesn't do it again with any other gear or if I come to an immediate stop and restart. If I let the truck warm up before driving the problem goes away. If I start out in manual and shift myself it is much better. In reading some post it seems that my transmission fluid may need changed, am I correct? Can anyone recommend a quality independent mechanic in the Orlando, FL area? Thanks! |

Some have found success changing fluid. Many have not. Transmission issues are difficult to diagnose. The above link may help.

You might want to read the thread below as it addressed what sounds like the same problem for many of us who have/had the 06 4.4.
