Talking FINALLY did some DIY stuff to my X5

I just thought I'd share some info/pictures on what I recently did to my X5 today/yesterday/last month.

1. I plastidipped my original 3.0i rims to a matte black.
2. Plastidipped the roof gloss black.
3. Sanded the exhaust tips to get the chrome effect on it (and YES those are the stock exhaust tips!!)
4. Sanded down the headlights and restored them WHAT A DIFFERENCE

Has anyone tried the Headlight restoration kits? I find them garbage as I had bought one a while ago and the foggy headlamps came back right after. I decided to DIY headlight restoration using different sand paper grits, wet sand it, then at the end use some Turtle Wax Scratch remover to take away the micro scratches that even the finest sandpaper wont take away. I used my Porter Cable 7424xp for that step with the scratch remover to buff the headlights to its brand new look again. After that I wanted to put a sealant on so I used Meguiars Plast X after I was done everything else.

Way to go on polishing those exhaust tips!

No easy task there! You can always mask em off and spray clear on them to help keep em looking pretty

Exhaust tips look good, I use Optimum Metal polish to keep them nice and shiny, good job getting all the rust off!

And nice job on headlights, after PlastX I follow up with a coat or two of the wax I use on my paint for extra longevity.

I did my lights a few weeks back and man oh man I scared the crap out of myself when I was sanding them... I just used 400, 800, 1000, 2000 grit them rubbing compounded the crap out of them and as good as new... but be prepared for them to looks 1 million times worse while sanding them..

Thank you everyone for your kind words! Yeah it took a lot of elbow grease to polish those exhaust tips and to restore the headlights but damn I must say it was totally worth it!
