Sudden Stalling
Hey guys,
Just recently, my 3.0 has started to randomly stall out? I just got the air conditioning back up and running and I know there is a little more load on the engine because of this. It happens on decel, like getting set to turn a corner. It has happened twice now. Truck just dies. It fires right back up again but it's daunting knowing it may die on a turn like that. Will the computer log that? Idle is around 700rpm when the AC is running. Bernie |

do you get any codes? the check engine light might not illuminate but the computer still may have codes stored... usually the idle is changing up with AC - it is 700 with AC on and 600 with AC off... so, with AC the car less likely to stall...
how about fuel filter? fuel pump? any roughness to the idle? does stall when in gear and foot on the brake? when simply idling in P or N? it is automaic, right? can you read codes? is your air filter clean?

The CES light comes on when it stalls so I don't know yet if it has stored a code. It turns off as soon as the truck is restarted. Fuel pump and fuel filter are both unknowns to me at the moment. I haven't changed them but maybe the PO did. Process of elimination I guess. No roughness at idle. It runs perfectly until it decides to shut off. This only happens on a sort of quick decel. The kind where you release the gas to brake for an approaching corner. Truck has no issues firing right back up again. No cranking necessary. B |

Idle Control Valve? you have a 3.0, so it might be the issue... on E39 with 2.8 i had an issue with ICV, there was a temporary remedy (not a solution) when you would rev the engine to the redline a couple of times, and then things would be fine for some time... on mine it would stall from the engine start up, just would not hold the idle - i was able to drive with two-foot method, right foot keeping the engine going, left foot braking... not very wise option... revving up to redline helped a bit...
so, ICV is another possible culprit... try to read the codes - get yourself some decent reader or a USB to OBD cable and the INPA software - then you can monitor live data from the motor |

Mine would stall at idle if I turned the steering wheel quickly - not good when you're pulling into a parking space. It was a cracked intake boot that was flexing on a sharp turn!

Check your air filter and clean your MAF sensor. I put on a cold air K&N filter and it would do the exact same thing. The car would run perfect then bog down and stall. It would start right back up for about another mile or two then do the same thing. I re installed factory air box and it has not happened since.
