Question would you do this? valve seal repair...

So I've had bad valve seals for about 4 or 5 months now and have found someone that can do the valve seal (and maybe the guides too) repair for $45/hr if I buy all the parts. He estimated that total it would only be about $600 and he could have the car for me the next day. That definetly beats the $8,000 from the dealership and $4,000 from an indi shop. So I had a few questions for you.

1) The guy works at a Subaru dealership as their mechanic - has all the certifications. He's done the same repair before but not on a BMW. Would the job be pretty much the same? He said that aside from a few things here and there it would be.

2) Where can I get the parts for the repair?

3) What parts would I need for the valve seals...and the guides.
- I can't remember if he said he would take the heads off or leave them in so I'm giving him a call later this week to figure that out.

You will need the following ( assuming your doing both heads & have the N6248B as I do ):

2 - BMW E53 X5 N62 4.8L > Search > Valve Seals > ES#22604 Valve Seals - 11340029751

1 - BMW E53 X5 N62 4.8L > Search > Valve > ES#2142935 Valve Cover Gasket - Set - 11127513195

1 - BMW E53 X5 N62 4.8L > Search > Valve > ES#2142933 Valve Cover Gasket - Set - 11127513194

I would also replace the plugs at the same time too. He shouldn't charge you additional for that.

Please let all of us know how it goes and the final outcome. If his work is acceptable and price effective, I am SURE more of us on here would be glad to have him help us out too

Well, no.

My boat ended up having a few problems and it looks like I'm giong to be throwing some money into that project now. Since it's summer, I think I would rather my boat. It might not be till fall when I get the x5 fixed.
