X5 total stereo upgrade

going into a 2004 X5 3.0. here's what i've got ready to install so far:

-custom bezel for the double din unit
-the new pioneer avic
-image dynamics 12" IDMAX12

then i have some new rockford amps, as well as some older zapco amps... not sure which i'm going to install. i need to think of a good arrangement in the back. the zapcos are smaller width wise, but super long. whereas the new rockfords pack a lot of power into a small package, and they are supposedly great in terms of heat dissipation. i have a couple fans blowing on my zapcos in an e39 now

WHAT I NEED TO KNOW is for the guys who have installed new speakers in the doors, what size woofer did you use?

i read about people using 6.5" as well as 5.25".... i'd prefer using the 6.5", but when i upgraded the speakers in my E39 with 6.5" JLs, the rubber part around the cone would occasionally touch the inner door panel and create a nasty buzzing noise that drove me NUTS!

has anyone had that problem?

also, i'm wondering if i should just use a 5 channel amp to power everything... i'm just wondering if it'll be enough power for the sub?? i'm looking right now at the HD900/5 - JL Audio 5 Channel 900 Watt HD Series Amplifie

Im putting in 6.5" Hertz High energy 3 way set. I am building a custom baffle out of birds eye maple. The factory has kind of a "funnel" that will hit when a larger aftermarket speaker is installed.

I did the same in my E39 with focal utopias, mine would hit as well so a bit of weatherstrip around the flange cured that problem.

Low, I would have loved to hear the Focal Utopias in your E39. I was a Focal lover for years but recently have been lured to Audison for the warmer tone. Obviously Hertz will have that same warm tone. Are you using a Bit One in your X? If so, being that I was used to Focal I tuned my Voce fronts a touch on the bright side because I do like my highs a little more well done and crispy.

Yeah, I was hooked on the Focal stuff for years, the utopia's are still in the E39 but I have been tempted to replace them with the same 3 way Hi-energys that are going into the X, why you ask? Because as soon as I heard the Hertz stuff I was hooked, much warmer, smoother. The audison stuff will be about the same.

I have some AC lc6,7's that I am using to sum all the channels and drive a single JL XD 700. I went this way as I did not want to gut the entire system out of the X5 like I did with the E39. I retain everything, and have added Ipod/Sirius to the factory unit. I am building an alpine nav/backup camera system/PDC to round everything off, just don't know where to put the monitor and have it still retain "factory looking" I was thinking about using it for a rear view mirror, but still undecided.

In the several installs that I have been apart of using the Bit one, it truly was best driving each channel (high, mid, low, sub) with its own amp using the crossovers in the processor itself, then to try and use a multi channel amp with passive xovers. I didn't want to try and find the room two or more amps in the back somewhere.
