2000 X 5 HEADLIGHT REPLACEMENT

JUST BOUGHT MY SECOND BMW... NOW I HAVE A X AND A Z BOTH ARE VERY COOL BUT THE MAINTEANACE ON THESE BABIES STRESSES ME OUT. MY X 5 HEADLIGHTS ARE DISCOLERED, AND THEY WONT BUFF ITS ON THE INSIDE. I HAVE HID'S OR PRETTY SURE I DO THE STICKER ON THE LIGHT SAYS 25,000 VOLTS SO IM GUESSING IF NOT MY 12 VOLT BATTERY IS ON STEROIDS. IM LOOKING AT REPLACING THE LIGHTS WITH SOME DEPO HALO LIGHTS, WITH AUTO LEVELING. IS THIS A PRETTY SIMPLE JOB OR DOES IT HAVE TO GO TO DEALER TO BE DONE. PLEASE ADVISE. THANKS

First -- lose the caps....its hard to read, and interpreted as you yelling. Second -- if they are Model year 2000 they should be fairly easy to open via baking method. In all likely hood the lens's are oxidized on the outside and need a resto kit to bring them back to life.

As for the 25000V, that is correct. It's the output voltage of the ballast that sustains the arc. It's a high voltage, low amperage situation, but still more than enough to cause some serious harm if you dont know what you're doing.

Thanks for the advice on the restore kit.. bought the 3M kit and its amazing. 30 min a light and they came back as new... I had tried some off the shelf polish but the 3M kit did the job. Thanks again

^Now find some clear film to put over them or they will oxidize again after a few months.
