Unhappy 2005 4.8IS 6 CD Changer

Hello All,

I have been an avid Member of this forum for some time now, and have gained alot. I have 3 E53's and I need some input on my Problem. I have searched and read many post for this but I am still looking for some help.

My 2005 4.8IS has no sound coming from the CD Changer in the Rear Boot, Radio works,Nav Works Cassette Works, DSP Works. Checked all connections+ Fuses via WDS wiring Diagrams ETC.

The only sound I get is a Ticking sound when I have the Volume up High. Is their something I missed, or is it the Unit itself that is Bad.

Any Advice would be great.

did the problem just start? after some recent work in the boot/trunk? or, you had this problem all the times? the sound that you are describing, reminds me of defective CD...

you mentioned that you have two more E53s. do they have normally functioning CD changers? easiest test is to swap the changer with a known good one and see if the problem stays or goes. swapping a changer is an easy procedure, if you are good with a wrench...

TerminatorX5,

I just Got my 4.8IS about 2 Weeks ago. I will answer your Questions:

1.CD Changer Never Played, Shows up on the Screen ( CD1, Track 1, Etc).

2. Haven't done any work in the Boot

3. My 2 other E53's do not have DSP, Thus no Coaxial connection beteween CD unit (N22) and Amp. I did however they the one out of my 2006, and plugged in the 3 Pin Connector and the 6 Pin connector, But no sound what so ever ( Not even the TICKING noise)

4. Yes, I am very good with a wrench and other Electronic things...

My CD Changer is the AI type verses the Normal type.

Any other Thoughts would be appreciated.

The CD looks like to be read by the unit as you've mentioned on point #1. It's just the sound that is not going through ..

well, since a CD changer from the other cars would not work in the DSP car, how about trying the questionable CD changer in the non-DSP car? If I remember correctly, the CD changer should have both coax and 6-pin connectors for the sound - now, since there are dozens of CD changer models out there, I might be wrong in your particular situation...

I would suspect, that the CD changer is defective - probably something with the laser head unit...

I think I've heard somewhere on the forum, that there are repair facilities that can repair the changer, the radio, the nav for relatively little money...

Well, mine doesn't recognize at all, it says: "NO DISC" whenever I selected my cd's
in the back that's what it says. But if I remove the cd magazine, the radio says: NO
MAGAZINE now. I wen't and bought a New OEM CD Magazine, but unfortunately does
the same thing. what could be wrong now? I do see all the CD's loaded one after one
when I first inserted the Magazine in.

In your case its the motor thats not loading the CDs..You need to open changer and lubricate all motors, then it should work.

Red face

Ok Update for the CD changer!!!
As indicated by POWER's1, when I looked closer while the cd's were in the process
of being loaded, I have discovered that the changer was attempted to load the CD's
but none of them were able to load successfully on the player platform. Meaning that's why the
system detects NO cd on the player's platform, which lead me to message: No cd on the radio.

Making matter even worst now, I was trying to disassemble the unit to see what I could do, but unfortunately the flat sensitive connector that has many connections lines
going through the back has been accidently cut-off and separated from each-either.
Meaning it's all messed up now leaving me with just a single disc on my dash radio.

Because it's such difficult to attempt reconnect back these little tiny lines, using a solder iron. The option now is to buy another cd changer, or update
to this system below integrated with an ipod.

I replaced the CD Changer that was in the back of my X with a Grom (USB, Bluetooth, IPOD) unit. It plays MP3 files, and is controlled by the MID and steering wheel just like the old changer.
