X5 - E53 - 2002 - Car wobbling at start
when I start car (X5, E53 2002 Euro model) in the mornings it is wobbling for few minutes. I seems it is pumping air into the air bellows of Air suspensions. When I read the forms many of them describe it happens when car is not in use for few days. But mine happening every day. only once in day though. In fact I have changed from 2 front air suspension arms, compressor in boot, and control arm. There is no error / warning msg on dash board display though. My worry is if air is leaking, then air compressor might get overloaded. Any thoughts on this? Last edited by Kisu_san; 07-18-2013 at 02:46 PM. |

hello kisu...
i tried to reply, but the reply did not work... so, you suspect that the airbags are leaking... do you see you car sagging in the morning? any of the corners is lower than the rest of the car? when you say wobble, i picture in my mind a "low frequency, high amplitude" oscilation, say, as if the engine mount is broken, and the car shakes rather heavily... from the past experience, the airpump is rather "vibrating"... i do not wish to hang on the semantics, but i want to get a mental picture of what is happening... if your airpump is kicking in every morning to the point that you actually feel it, there are several scenarios: either a bag or an airline is leaking air and the system catches it when the engine is started and starts pumping air (as you suspect) instead of the bag, the leak could be in the "holding tank" and the pump goes into correction there... or, the operation is totally normal, it had been doing so all the times but you started to notice it now as you are more tuned to it... it seems that you have air in all 4 corners... next time, when you park the car overnight, press the ground clearance button (you have it, right?) to RAISE the car to the high level, engine needs to be running, doors and the boot closed... once it is at the high level, check in the morning if any of the corners is low... if the corners are good to go, obviously, they are not leaking... do it first - lets take one thing at a time.. |

By the way, do you know what should be the height at each corner. I mean from ground till wheel arch. Is there any way to measure this height other than visual inspection? |
