I googled "how to remove hazard switch BMW e53 X5 Xoutpost"...and guess what was the 3rd result down? Yes, you guessed it...it was your post on 10/15/2012 asking how to access the central lock button/switch.
Central lock button inoperative - Xoutpost.com

Looks like the procedure is like that of the e38 & e39...you pop the gearshift boot out (by squeezing it or prying it out from the console)..then you do a "reach around" and push up on the switch to pop it out of the cupholder:

Be kind, at my age I can hardly remember yesterday, and I did repair it the last time, lasted
7 months....this time I bought a new one....$18, the lady who sells these parts "claims" she had actually been to Taiwan, and in the factory that makes parts there are 2 "lines" with or w/o BMW #s, this one is 1/3 the price of the Bimmer one, lets see how long it lasts.
tnx daniel

Glad it wasn't that difficult.
