Like I said if you read Keith Code's "Twist of the Wrist 2" he explains that a natural Survival Reaction (SR's as he calls them) when faced with panic in a corner, most likely from going in too hot, is to chop the throttle closed (standing the bike up) and once you do that the bike stands up and you veer off the road. The instinct you must teach yourself is to keep your throttle steady, and lean the bike further into the turn, even if you have to drag knee, and keep your eyes up into the turn to see it through. The problem is most riders don't trust the machine enough to stay calm and lean the motorcycle further mid-corner if they go in too hot, but it can be the difference between life and death. Steady throttle, not backing off. The truth is most supersports will have you dragging a knee at extreme lean angle and still get through a turn at high speed, but most are scared of asking the bike for more lean and they end up fixating their eyes off the road instead of at the end of the turn, and the bike goes where your eyes are fixated, ALWAYS. Take your friend for example, had he had the werewithal to fixate his eyes toward the end of the turn knowing he was too hot, and leaned his motorcycle as far as it could go, he would have done one of two things. 1) Gotten through the turn (without seeing it I couldn't tell you at his speed if he would have, remember, steady throttle not increasing or decreasing so if he leaned further with throttle neutral his speed would have decreased by the end of the curve) 2) Hit extreme lean angle for the speed he was going and lowsided the bike and slid off the road. Now on option number 2, is where proper gear comes in. Even on a higher speed lowside, geared up, just sliding off the road and not hitting obstacles, 99% he would have lived. Much better than staying on the bike and smacking the telephone pole. And this brings up an even better question, a telephone pole is only about a foot or two in width, probably the smallest target on the side of the road to hit, so how did he hit it? Target Fixation. Our eyes naturally divert themselves to danger but you have to re-teach your eyes to stay fixated on the safest route (another SR 'survival reaction' Keith Code talks about, I told you you need to read his book!) Your friend may have been great for Youtube and highway stunting, but true lack of riding proficiency is ultimately what cost him his life.

i have a regular legacy, not a turbo charged. And as a man who've driven a few beaters in my days, its the best one with the lease amount of issues. Even the so called reliable hondas gave me hell. but GL to whatever you chose.

on pre-facelift X5 the bumper had a slit cut out in the bumper, where the guiding tab would slide and tell you about the center of the bumper.. on the facelift bumpers i did not see that hole/tab combination... i did post the time and date for the special documentary on the military channel about the US special forces abroad, in the Lounge forum |

Did you sell your X5? I'm trying to sell mine right now. detail supplies..? Don't you get those at work? Tires... look on craigslist everyday. After looking for 6 months I picked up all 4 Michelin for $100 Russian Plates- Just smuggle them, put it in baggage underneath your stuff or on the side, or ship them from Russia. Rebuild- That sounds fun! Dont know how hard it is working with the engine in the trunk though. Good Luck and take pics and make a write up on the engine rebuild. new watch? I'll sell you my seiko. I dont like wearing watches as they get heavy for my small wrist. GL
