Disguise Auto as Manual?

Will a manual shift knob slide right onto the Auto shift knob metal shaft?

I know the shift boot is the easy part... Also im sure theres a way to trick the "button".

I just got the idea from post 9 on here:

... why would you want to do that? I think the idea is silly, and judging by the other ideas your link is throwing up, its not being serious.

Artem,

With all do respect, it is an absolute silly idea, even if you could make it fit. I know the auto selector has a long shaft that clips into the shift assembly, whereas the manual knob just "slides" over the shifter rod and actually is just secured by a ziptie/hose clamp with the boot to keep everything together. So you'd have to figure out a way to swap the knob of the manual over the long shaft for the auto shifter and secure in place, and then you would have to deal with the button on the auto shifter, not sure how you would work around that. Bimmian sells an E70 auto shifter retrofit kit, which some have done, if you want to switch it up.

Regardless though, if you want to have the manual look, you need to actually "downgrade" (not my phrase as I don't see it as a downgrade) a couple cylinders and get a genuine 3 pedal X5 like me. Trust me, the driving pleasure and experience is well worth the slight power loss in my opinion.

Nothing would be sillier than a broad who comes in your ride, and goes "oooh I like the shifter, is that stick?" and you go "nah baby, I just put the shift knob in" as you slide it down into D! And don't forget the shift gate pattern will be on the knob lol!

only as a deterrent to a would-be thief who could not find clutch to get moving - to be honest, sounds too much of a made-up story to believe...

Pezho, this is an interesting mod, but it would fall in the same category as the X5///M badge on the X3!!!

the hidden stash compartments on that link of yours are funny though...

You don't have to trick the button, if you get a non-X5 knob (which has a shorter internal shaft) you can move it through the gears without the button.
