Did the unusual pressure reading at the fuel rail ever get resolved? Was it merely the result of an exhausted battery?

Maybe you are loosing fuel pressure at the fuel transfer system. Check or replace the O-Ring No. 4 in the dwg. and verify again fuel pressure

That fuel transfer has nothing to do with the fuel pressure in the fuel rail. That transfer is used to move fuel from the left side of the tank to the right side of the tank where the fuel pump is located. A bad fuel transfer will cause the engine to die/stall from a lack of fuel because the fuel sender is on the left side and the fuel pump is on the right side and if the fuel doesn't get transfer the fuel gauge will still read full but there is no gas in the fuel pump sump.

No vacuum line. Now, when I replaced the filter, it looked like the real OEM version without a vacuum. Are there different fuel filters for different X5s?

I asked you before if you installed the vacuum line to the regulator and you said yes, but according to a past post by you, your filter didn't have a vacuum line to the regulator like the filter that was already in the truck. So how did you connect the vacuum line? Did you connect the vacuum line.

If you pass along misinformation we can't help you fix the problem.

There were several posts on the subject of the fuel filter. We checked and verified the part number and found there was only one offered for his particular X. He had the right part number and it looked exactly like the old one. He made the replacement when his X was running fine and it continued to run fine for another 500 miles or so.

If you look at Adrian's post which I quoted, his original fuel filter didn't have a vacuum line and his replacement filter was just like the one that he took off the truck No Vacuum Line. See Boldface type in Adrian Post.

On my MY 2001 BMW X5 3.0 engine it has this fuel filter with a regulator and a connection for a vacuum line.

It would be nice of you to stop suggesting that posts come flying out of my a#s.
I reviewed that entire section regarding fuel filter. I never trust my memory.

Adrian said his filter was the same as the old one and that the old one did not have a vacuum line. I also reviewed Adrian's summary and he states that his X ran fine for 500 miles after installing the new filter.

Adrian has been through hell on this. If he made a mistake we have found it, big deal. I am surprised he is not in the funny farm by now.

This filter is for later E53 2002 - 2006.



You need one of these to change the filter.

Can you explain what type of filter is now install in the truck?
