Alternator went out UGH...I can only afford one BMW!

I knew they were expensive, but $1080 for an alternator is crushing. I normally would do this job myself but have other commits and my son is taking the car this weekend, so I'm paying the piper.
The dealership only wanted $857 for this job a few years ago.
Who says inflation is low?

Autozone has the alternator for $200 - get a local shop to install it - only cost me a total of $350.

I can't recall but the OEM equivalent was around $450 or so...

There is 1 advantage to the dealer one though. I believe it's a lifetime warranty on it. Not sure about labor, but the part itself is lifetime if I recall

BMW only offer a two years unlimited mileage on parts that they sell.

There is no lifetime warranty on any part from the dealers. Why would they ever do that?

It is 2 years on parts they sell.

But on certain parts when they sell/install, it is lifetime. IF memory recalls, the alternator is one of those parts...or was it the waterpump , or both.
Too lazy too google it, but there are certain parts with lf. Not sure if labor is re-covered with that..

Here is the DIY

http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...-pictures.html

that i have done back while ago...

I know oem maybe better , but the lack of lifetime warranty ,no point of buying from them, unless
you sell the x5 within 2 years...
