Your opinion on price

I've done lots of research on pricing but what I don't have experience in is what sort of premium should be placed on a vehicle with ultra low miles and if this particular vehicle warrants it. I'm looking at an '06 4.8 with 7200 miles. It has I think all available options and there asking $38k. Seems to me a price in the low 30's is still at a premium? It did have a minor fender bender where the side exterior mirror was replaced, drivers door and front fender had to be repaired and resprayed/blended. It was a minor repair but nonetheless the original factory painted panels have been altered.

Any thoughts? Thanks for any input!

Is it a CPO car? If not it just a 7 year old truck with no warranty, but with low mileage. For that kind of money I would look for a later model year with a warranty.

No cpo. It's from a private individual.

I worry about cars with such low miles cuz that means the car has been sitting for a long time. He probably didn't have the money to fix it so it was sitting

As a seller of a, relatively speaking, low mileage 1999 328i (purchased new in December 1998 and sold in August 2010 with 35K miles) in like new condition I wanted a premium for my car. However I quickly discovered that, despite being low mileage and in like new condition it was still an eleven year old car. While I was able to sell it for a few thousand dollars more than comparable cars it certainly wasn't a huge premium.

$38K for a 2006 4.8 seems like too much of a premium. It may have low miles but is still seven years old.

Imo, it will need new brake fluid, new coolant, an oil/filter change, maybe diff fluid re-do, etc. Not huge expense, but 'time' has eroded away at the 'liquids' in their systems. OE tires are on their last leg; new wiper blades, & some top quality silicone on all the rubber parts/window & door seals, etc. Batt may be suspect too, even if it is new/newer...

'Museum like cars' are often cosmetically fine, but a few real drives often produce some funny stuff going on. I would check closely how the car was 'kept', and what kind of driving occurred, esp in terms of frequency and distances, to produce so few miles per year avg.

7+ yr old model, though the mileage, (if straight), is interesting. But, maybe not interesting enough for anything near the asking price.

Fwiw, it may be very coverable by a 3rd party warranty/insurance plan, eg Warranty Direct, et al, if the price was more reasonable, imo.

There are not that many 4.8s so it is hard to get a comparable in a single region. That said, because of the number manufactured, checking the national offerings of 4.8s at sites like New Cars, Used Cars, Car Reviews | Cars.com provides a reasonable price range. For grins, I just checked and quickly found two 2008 4.8s at $38,000 with less than 50,000 miles and are certified.

If this one is all that you want, including color and interior, if it is a one owner and all the service records are available, Carfax matches the history, PPI checks out and you can tell they took good care of the X---I would make an offer a thousand or two a realistic highprice and be willing to pay up to $2,000 over to satisfy sellers perspective of worth. if that didn't fly, I would walk and tell him to let me know if he changes his mind. 4.8 buyers will be knowledgable and it is very unlikely his price will stand.

At 72,000 miles odds are in your favor that the big ticket maintenance should be 20 to 30,000 miles away, maybe more, so the total cost of ownership shouldn't blow you out of the water but who knows.

If it were me I would find one under 50,000, miles and with extended warranty. As you can see they are out there.

The OP stated 7200 miles, not 72,000...
Considerable diff. Wonder if that orig mileage number of 7200 is accurate.
If so, lots of stuff to change, just for maintenance/time consideration, as I wrote.
