Your opinion on price

Yes 7200 not 72,000. I'm finding '07-'08 4.8's for $33-40k with mileage in the low 30,000 range so with all your input and where the market is I do believe this vehicle is way overpriced. The lure of the super low miles is tempting as I'm looking for a near showroom condition 4.8! Thanks all!

What are your thoughts? Are you considering it? A 4.8 with 7,200 is tough to beat if the price is right.

Ooopsie, I read what I thought the mileage should be because 7,200 is so unusual.

If it was what I wanted in color and interior because I see those all the time I would go after it. If not exactly what I was looking for I would consider at some point I may have buyer's remorse because I paid to much but I would still give it very strong consideration.
I have never had any regrets even when I bought a white car and really wanted a black one.

There is no guideline for this X. It is simply what the market will accept and how bad someone wants it.

If the actual miles is 7,200 you should be able to get a strong indication by the interior, especially the driver side bolster. If the tires are original there will be no wear and probably some sidewall cracks. Check the smell of the carpet under the matts, should smell new. Things like spare tire, engine compartment stickers, door sills, steering wheel will help confirmation. Vehicles like this usually have complete service history and mileage documentation, often one owners. I think it is a Great find--just a question of what YOU are willing to pay. I suspect there is at least one on this forum that is trying to locate the owner. If you buy it don't tell how much you paid, just say it was a good deal for both of us.

With low mileage vehicles I have changed brake fluid and engine oil after 100 miles, I checked the other fluids to see what they looked and smelled like but anything in a sealed system was always just fine though I checked again in a 100 miles.

I never checked to see if I would get a warranty but it would be nice if you could.

A little more history. The X5 sat from 2006-2010. The original owner is a collector and his fleet was maintained by a full time employee. The vehicle was stored in a climate controlled location and fluids were changed by this employee. Allegedly. The car was then bought at an auction in 2010 by the second owner. I wish I could see it in person but I can't/haven't at this point.

My thoughts are I wish I could see it in person first. I'd have to buy it sight unseen and have it transported and hope for the best or fly to see it and either drive it back home or fly back home and have it trucked back. The challenge is its 2800 miles!!!! 😳

Could ask them to do a video or Skype or get a local BMW tech to look it over and shoot some smart phone footage. Much easier to tell condition than pictures. I have made a sight unseen purchase based on documentation and inspection by local enthusiast. Was a little scary but I was glad I did when it backed out of the truck.

I still think it's pricey, but I am not buying the car, and everyone has their own bag.

Vehicle is not worth a premium with a carfax zit on it, period, no matter how minor it is! Further on that note if you did want to pursue it even with that blemish that alone would make me have to see it in person.

Assuming you're OK with the price (I feel it's a little high) I would definitely consider flying out there to have a look at it. But only if I was serious about buying it. 2,800 mile drive across the country in such a nice vehicle will be an experience to remember. Maybe there's a member here who lives close and could check it out?

Also I see OptimusPriM5 mentioned a Carfax issue?

The X5 is not a collector vehicle where a repaint or slight damage would have impact on the price. There is no indication the X5 will ever become a part of the collector market. I would use the fact that it has been damaged in price negotiation as ammunition, but, IMO, it won't bring the price down much.

I feel certain both sellers know this X has passed any reasonable speculation of profit in the future. The prices have not bottomed out.

IMO the sell price is only intended to see what the market will bear because of the low mileage and condition. What seller does not know is how much that is worth and has set the price higher than he is willing to take. That means to me that you should be able to benefit from negotiation.

If this were the X I wanted, I would offer a price high enough to get their interest (an amount that is a premium price over existing market price and 3-$5,000 lower than than I willing to pay so there is a gap for negotiation. I would set a walk-a-way price and get at the negotiation. A good thing to try to find out is how long it has been on the market, how motivated the seller might be. If this is the X you want, the longer you wait the more likely you will have competition that gives the seller more price leverage.

Unless I couldn't find a qualified individual to endorse what it is, including driving it, I would not add to the price by flying to see it. I would have it shipped in a closed truck. My first drive would not be 2,800 miles.

To find someone, find out the nearest BMW club, ask who is qualified or what is the best Indy shop in the area.
