See my thread on "Just Wondering".

That's what I HATE about these cars, only one lock and if it's frozen in the winter or broken then you are SOL.

bimmer848, I went through this a few months ago. I had always used the lock cylinder as my remote locking didn't work. Lock cylinder spun freely and was locked out.

There IS a way to get in your car that BMW Assistance (in Europe in any case) knows how to do, and I do as well. They are cautious about this - as it would allow any resourceful person to get into an X5 (E53 is my platform) in under five minutes without a key.

If you back in your car, repairing your lock cylinder is easy. You can buy a set of replacement parts (Ebay seller in Turkey) to rebuild your cylinder.

I then figured out my remote locking problem was simply a defective FZV module. Ten minutes to replace and now my remote open / close works. Repaired door lock cylinder works as well.

thanks for all the help and pms guys! y'all are the best. my keyless entry always worked intermittently. I started to work on getting in, posting here and calling local gurus for help. I got lucky and by repeating my button pushing over and over it opened!! I just replaced the door handle carrier last year. this does make me angry that it broke so soon! going to repair it again and suck it up and buy two keys. what a pain. I love this thing but something breaks every 30 days it seems.
