Is this normal so far?
Since then I had to replace driver side axel boot, alternator, fix tail light and now both my front bags are shot. Because of the alternator issue, my navi screen has pixilation. Would you say this is a lot of issue/repairs so far? I am honestly getting fed up. as much as i love the truck, i spend most of my time wondering what else is going to break and when. I am afraid to take another long trip with the truck. I know these issues are unique to the truck, I am paranoid about when the blue smoke and tranny issue will develop since the all the normal issues have been happening.

Sounds fairly normal to me. IMO, almost all BMW's need a ton of maintenance around 50k and 100k miles. It seems like everything likes to wear out at the same time around those ages. I've owned an E30, E36 & E46... the E53 has had way more stupid, little issues than the past vehicles though.

I just got mines.. drove it for 2 weeks and just handed it to her.. did plugs, oil, and checked for all leaks and ccv..
Its as good as it can get. It does have slight blue smoke, but its at 80% complred to when I just got it. It drives normal, so ill just live with it. I also notices the boot is torn on the driver side. I will replace the whole shaft when it start making noise, since I dont know how long its been torn. If this vehicle last me for 5 more years, without major issues. I would say, I got my moneys worth. |

I forgot to mention that I also replace the passenger side handle carrier.
Thank god for my 2009 subaru legacy, and glad I didnt trade it up when i got the truck, as i need a ride for work. I am here wondering if these things will break, i fix then they are good for another 100k miles or will they break again within 5 miles.

Nothing out of the ordinary to me.
At this point in the game, It wouldn't be unreasonable to expect the rubber components to start failing (if the haven't already been changed) simply from age alone. This include things like cv boots, intake boots, air suspension bags, any and all suspension bushings, belts, drive shaft hanger/center bearing and also things like door weather stripping. These trucks are maintenance intensive vehicles, no two ways about it unfortunately. They do have some pretty silly issues I'll admit....but the good news is that almost every problem you are likely to encounter will be documented in some shape or form on this site. Plenty of reading and a good preventative maintenance schedule should keep you in good shape!

Every problem that happens to anybody doesn't mean it will happen to you. It is important to keep the forum in that perspective. I have to constantly remind myself of that. A very high percentage of the threads are about solving problems. If you are a faithful follower it is easy to become so paranoid that you will be reluctant to drive your X at all.
My position is the problems you experience are more related to how you drive, the environment you are in and how well you keep up with preventative maintenance. Certainly, there are things that wear out but the majority of that happens somewhere around 100,000 miles. The costly repairs that there are lots of posts about--like tranny and blue smoke issues don't happen to everyone and more often than not around or over that same 100,000 mile mark. FYI--I have over 109,000 miles on my X. I have not experienced the blue smoke issue and have not had problems with the tranny. I have many engine mods and am spraying nitrous. Based on the frequency of tranny and blue smoke posts I should be fogging mosquitos and on my 4 or 5th transmission.
