2002 4.4i Angle Eye Kit Advice

My 02 4.4 has factory HID lights without angle eyes. All the replacement kits I found online are all for cars with Halogen lights that can be converted to HID.

Has anyone found a set that works ?

Do you just want to add angel eyes to your stock lights? I see you have an 02, so check the build date on your housings (10/2002 and newer lights CANNOT be baked open), but if they are before that, use this kit:

(I'm assuming you want to install LED angel eyes and not the older CCFL ones)

It comes with the relay harness, all you have to do is follow the DIY in the How-to's to bake them open (240 per light in the oven for about 20 mins should do the trick)

I wanted to replace the whole assembly, I cleaned up the plastic lens but they are just ok. I see a ton of $300 plug and play headlight kits but they don't work if you already have HID BMW E53 X5 '01 - '03 LED Projector Angel Eye Headlights w/ Chrome Housings: Bekkers.com Driiv Autosport

I used to deal with Bekkers all the time now they wont answer there phone and they don't take emails.

I found thees on eBay and through email the seller says they will work with HID's. The stock HID I have now adjust when stated..not sure thees will.

My goal is use the angle eyes as day time running lights. I may use the kit you linked on eBay but I wish I knew how they clip into place.

I had a E36 and I was able to replace the Bosh lens and paint the inside chrome..That was before LED's and angle eyes.

Those chrome ones you listed are disgusting looking.

And yes, for stock HID, those Depo units for almost 700 bucks will plug and play. God, for that price, i hope so.

If I were you, I'd spend the 20 bucks on the 3M headlight restoration kit bc I'm sure after using that your stock lights will look like new again. Then you can bake them open, and install the angel eyes from the link I provided.

Literally you unclip the glass "waffle lenses" around the projector and high beam and the angel eyes get installed BETWEEN the black shroud and the glass lenses, its pretty simple.

I also provided you a thread where a guy recently installed them, for the price why not clean up your stock units and install the angel eyes I showed you? You can probably get it done for under 100 bucks (I don't knnow about you but 700 bucks for angel eyes isn't my thing, I have a mortgage and other things to pay for lol!)

Thanks for the info RB..... I also wanted to get rid of the amber side indicators and do a face lift. I also wanted to put in new tail lights with clear turn signals.

Its not about the money with me but the look I want to achieve..I bought a low mileage great shape, low priced E53 and want to update the look

I'm in the same boat as you man! The pre-facelift headlights are "outdated" and would look good with some updated headlights. How good are you at taking headlights apart/retrofitting?

These headlights have to be baked open and taken apart, but all the OEM HID internals will swap right in place, quite the facelifted look too! It says they are for halogen but like I said if you bake them open you can put your OEM projectors in there, self leveling motors etc.

Check these out, somethings up with the listing though because the normal price is like $219:

I assume you have a non-sport E53. I would get the aftermarket headlights (the same kind that I had on my old 3.0) and fit an Evo-X projectors in them. As for taillights, go LED.

Can you please link where you bought them from. I'm still trying to figure out good/trusted vendors .

There are 3 vendors for those headlights on ebay, "psteam", "genntec", and "bbamotor", the link I posted above is genntec.

Email them though, I think the black versions might be out of stock currently (I recently witnessed a backorder which took almost 2 months to get back in stock), because their ebay listing shows $999 when they should be $219.


FYI, they are the same headlights tmv has (I'm going to get a set as well for my OEM HID equipped X5 and just swap internals and a better projector)

I can do/repair just about anything on a car or bike. I'm not going to crack open brand new headlights cases and swap motors that I'm not sure will work....much smarter to buy these with self levelers...
