X5 Flat Battery, and Broked Drivers door lock!

Hi out there fellow Xoutposters!! Was wondering if anyone can help me with any ideas on how to get into my X5 -E53! It has a flat car battery as I have been away and when I manually went to open drivers door, it appears the lock has broken as it doesnt seem to do anything now!!! And I'm extremely stuck with what to do. Can u open the bonnet from the outside, somehow to try and charge the battery, or has anyone got any other ideas?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The drivers' door lock cylinder has two positions...the normal 45 degree lock/unlock position is also "electronic" (in that the locks are electronically actuated)...thus turning the lock to the normal positions when there's a dead battery will result in the vehicle not unlocking....just as pressing the remote buttons having no affect.

Not sure if the above is what you did and is the reason you say that your locks are "broken"...and if that's what you did...go back and turn the lock cylinder to the MANUAL UNLOCK POSITION.

The manual lock & unlock positions require that you insert the key and turn 90 degrees clockwise or counter clockwise (depending on if you're locking or unlocking). And if you haven't or are unsure if lock maintenance has been a regular thing done...you may want to use a lubricant (like graphite or Tri-Flow)...sometimes owners have difficulty manually unlocking the doors due to a build up of dirt/grime/dust/etc over the years...especially if the remote is used 100% of the time:

Thanks heaps for helping Qsilver. I have tried everything. When I went to open the lock itself, it only seemed to rise a quarter of the way and then I tried pulling the handle in desperation, and now it has nothing mechanical happening inside the lock no matter where I turn it or how long I leave it there. I have since rung several mechanics who say they'res simply nothing that can be done except get it towed to BMW for repairs. Which I'm pretty sure it wont be able to be towed anyway due to the position of where its parked. Have spent so much time researching and thinking about it, I think BMW just might be the answer sadly. Once again tho mate thanks......

Interesting. My door lock is broke too. I would price a rear window vs. a shop/tow price.

Great.

When you get a chance, post back how you did it in the thread so that there's a resolution/fix...I'm sure someone else may need your experience someday if they find themselves in the same situation.

I was going to post the image below of how the positive battery cable runs throughout the vehicle...the starter & alternator can provide a positive connection once the lower panels are removed:

Okay Qsilver - well I was lucky enough to be put in touch with a Jack who re does the BMW keys here in Perth. And he was wise and kind enough to help me out even further by passing on a guys name here in Perth - a locksmith - who was extremely in touch with the problem and was able to open the lock somehow from the outside. Unfortunately my battery was so drained we couldnt jump it, so a replacement battery was also in order. But from 99% of people I spoke to, this was a massive problem which could only be fixed by BMW. Was amazed by all the help given by the people on here and fellow owners also from here willing to help out where possible to get the job sorted.
Cheers everyone!
