2004 X5 Bluetooth Issues!!! Help!!!

Ok, so I discovered the bluetooth module located in the rear of the vehicle, then proceeded to pair my phone but nothing happens. The steps I followed were:

1. Turn ignition to acc on, position 1.
2. Press and hold the phone button on the steering wheel for 3 seconds.
3. Turn ignition to ign on, postion 2, while holding the phone button.
4. Did a scan on the phone for bluetooth device.

Nothing happens. Please lmk, if I'm doing something wrong or do I have to replace the bluetooth unit.

A simple search before posting would have shown you you are not pairing correctly.

As I have previously stated in a post, to pair, these are the instructions, taken from the manual.

1) Press and hold the button under the armrest for 3 seconds.
2) Turn the key to Pos2
3) You should see "bluetooth pairing" come up on the instrument panel.
4) Release the button
5) Immediately press the button again and hold for 10 seconds, or until the system beeps (usually loudly) 3 times. You will see Devices Deleted. It will stay in Pairing mode, so just pair the new phone.

That's a slightly misleading response. Not all systems pair that way. The issue is that depending on the module model you may not actually have real Bluetooth. For whatever reason they installed TCM modules for use with SOS but don't have the ability to pair with a normal phone despite having a PK on the tag. I had this w/mine and swapped it with an older module from another car.

That said, I think there is a way to enable the functionality on 2004 model TCU's but you have to have access to NCS expert.

Check the post on "reset bluebooth". I just did mine yesterday and it's working perfectly. I been hunting down this resolution over a year. I have even brought the X into the dealership and my SA and the shop manager could not get the phone to paired. I love this forum

Funny that- When I was at Otto's they told me one that driver's door must be closed and seat belt on!

I did not have to do either. Just put the key and the phone paired and I just enter the PK #.
