Newbee 2005 X5 Squeky rightfront paxside

Hi. Newbee here . Love thisforum.
My daughter came home from school and as she was pulling in the drive way I hear this squek onthe right pax side.
The only time it squick is when she turns the steering wheel to the right.
when she turns the steering wheel to the left its fine. just when she turns the wheel to the right. I know its not the power steering, I looked underneat the car while its running on parked, hand brakes on, and a chock. I ask her to turn the steering wheel and the squicky noise just appears when she turn the wheel slightlyt to the right or when she's turning the wheel to the right side. At first Iam thinking the the bushings need greasing. but There's no grease fitting Ican see. I drone it and steering seems to be fine. It's just the annoying noise. Help. any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Willie

The problem is you were trying to describe sound with words. Need a sound clip (any phone can do video nowadays) and a picture of where it's coming from. You might have more response then. GL.

Thank's GL. I might have to ask my daughter to do that on her phone and post it here since she is on a fall break from school.
My phone is an old one. It does not do all the new stuff.

Thank You..

In the absence of video is it a once off squeak, a slow repetitive squeak or a fast repetitive squeak? Is it a low squeak or a high squeak? Is it a soft squeak or a loud squeak?

It sounds more like rubber and metal rubbing together. I flush the power steering reservoir as posted on some on the topics and videos on the forums over the weekend and the squek is still there. The squeak appears when you turn the steering wheel to the right, it will squeak once or sometimes twice whether your turning the steering wheel slow or fast but only when you turn the stering wheel to the right.. You can also hear it from the inside. I am guessing that it might be the struts. Will the struts do that. I notice that the struts also turn when you turn the steering wheel. I am Still puzzled.... Can not wait to get home and take a video of this squeak and post it.. Thank You all..

Does it happen whether the engine is running or not?

SQUEKY FRONT PAXSIDE

BULK,

I have to have the engine running in order for me to turn the steering wheel. I drove the vehicle today to work. I think it is more the front suspension ( Right Strut ). I can hear the squek driving on secondary road on every dimples of the road. When I drove on the interstate and the road is smooth, there's nothing. .
I might have to go underneat the vehicle again and check it out when I get home.

Thank's..

I took a video but not able to upload it here.

Obvious things to check: sway bar mount, though it usually manifests itself as a clunk. Spring rubber pads, are they there?

Miles on the X5? What maintenance have you done?

My suggestion on figuring this out is to bounce the vehicle up and down a bit while your daughter listens to see if she can isolate the exact location (or region). If you try it while the hood is up, wear a hard hat as it'll fall on your head if you don't (Murphy is alive and well).

Good luck!

KIRK,

Hi. Thank You for your post . I will try that. I think I isolated ( I hope ) where the squicking is going on. I know its on the front Pax side ( Maybe the strut or the front sway bar if it has one. I will check the places you said to check. I have over 160K on the X5. It always goes to a BEAMER place when it needs maintenance except lately. I did the flush on the Power steering, Thanks to this forum it save's me some bucks that I can use towards my daughters school stuff. I also replaced
the driver side locking assembly since the actuator bit the dust and locked her out and she also end up breaking the door handle and I also have to replace the assembly, thank you again for this forum. I also just put on 4 new tires before she started the fall semester. All this little things happened within two months.

Thank You again for your advice and I might need more than a hard hat if I decided to bounce the X5 with the hood up..LOL!!!
