Recommended tools and softwares to program

Hello All,

I've been searching around and found BMW Scanner on ebay at a knocked off price. I would like to see anyone in this forum ever tried those and what do you guys think? I would like to be able to read code, re-program the modules such as day time running light, windows up and down, key memory and etc.

get the INPA software from the seller in Romania ($30) and it comes with the USB cable. He includes instructions on how to get it running, I think you need a laptop with 2 GB ram and Windows XP is preferable.

You can run inpa with the software for diagnostics, and get NCSExpert running to do coding on the modules. Lots of research to be done beforehand though as its a complex program to learn. Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I do have an old IBM with intel centrino which I can load windows XP. By any chance do you know the seller name in ebay? Isn't there two versions: serial port and usb port?

i have USB version - i don't think they make laptops with serial ports any longer... if yours has the serial port, you might want to try it...

There is also 16 to 20 pin adapter

I actually haven't bought the software, but that link looks fine to me and seems to be the family of sellers that others have used.

And for your 2003 you shouldn't need the 16 to 20 pin adapter, that was only on early E53's (1999-2001 I believe)

I just bought the cable and software from that Romanian Ebay seller. Installed everything over the weekend, and seems to be working fine. So far, I've only been able to (sort of) figure out the DIS system. At least enough to reset (and keep resetting) my suspension inactive message until a replacement height sensor gets here.

So what is the biggest difference between the SSS Progman coding and NCS Expert? Just the capability as far as what can be coded? I haven't really gotten into SSS yet.

Same guy in the links you posted ("catastefy"). Takes a while to ship, given that it's coming from Romania, but he's very responsive to questions. So far, so good with the software and cable.
