possible problem !?!

Not sure if this is a problem or not. Any one know why sometimes my 03 x5 3.0i pulls like a raped ape but most of the time it pulls like normal? Noticed a few times in the past month. On the rare occasion it pulls hard it's kinda like the difference between my 96 stock chevy s10 and my 97 s10 with heads, cam, headers, built trans, and rear end. It is a major difference in acceleration.

Should I be concerned? Or is the trans possible slipping the majority of the time and I just can't tell?
It still normally has no problem getting up to speed it's just it's such a dramatic difference getting planted into the seat when not expecting it.

Also noticed twice when shifting gears it seemed to hit a perfect gear and lunged forward while accelerating.

Any info would be appreciated.

thanks guys

Could be the difference between adaptive modes on the gear box and also your aircon compressor being engaged. On the 3.0L the drag of the aircon can be noticeable. Try turn the aircon off, and see if the X pulls harder, also at the same time try it in sport (unless you have manual transmission?), which will force the most aggressive gear box mode. If this does not make the difference that you are noticing then I am fresh out of ideas....

Might just be cooler air in the atmosphere now, or you need to replace the Vanos seals

auto transmission or manual transmission?

Creating a permanent signature with your model/model year/build date and other pertinent info helps us to help you better. It allows us to be specific with suggestions, answers, directions etc...or helps us to look up information that is exact (instead of guessing) when replying to your posts. It also helps others in the future that may be doing a search for a problem they're having...and can tell if your issue/resolution applies to them because they'll know which of the 7 engines, multiple transmissions, specific options based on build date, etc you have.

Really consider creating a signature...just click on the USER CP link at the top right of the page and go to EDIT SIGNATURE. It really does help us to help you better.

It could be depending on where you are in the rpm range

had similar experience - blown valve gaskets

if so, have them do ALL of them - we tried just the one side, but had to do both

I think I figured it out guys sorry to waste your time. it was a combination of barometric pressure, air temp, and just the right gear. Tomorrow morning is forcasted to be almost identical to the morning I posted the question. I'll try it again on the way to work.

I rarely use the aircon it's not used during driving. I got a bunch of windows that open and I always drive way to fast like 10mph over the limit. 0 accidents 1 speeding ticket in 18 years driving.

Rpm range is almost always between 1400 and 3500 max rpm of almost 5k while passing once. It was a toyota prius I hate hate hate them I want them to hear me hurting the environment.
The only problems as far as the engine is one of the oil feed lines needs to be replaced. It leaks 1 qt of oil a month. Also the boot for the throttle body needs to be replaced to stop the wanna be turbo sound.

hope the signature update worked

Could be your vanos flap not working correctly or the pin is coming loose.
