Parking assist and iphone sync

As you can tell by my user name I am a new BMW owner of a 2006 X5. As with any used vehicle there are things that need addressing and I'm trying to handle as many as possible without a trip to the 169.00 per hr dealer. I haven't been able to sync our phones for hands free operation and the park assist button doesn't even light up. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure your 06 E53 comes with Bluetooth module. There should be a passcode on the sticker of the module. Usually it's in the left compartment in the back. There're procedure posted all over the internet. I'm sure Qsilver7 posted it here before too. Use the "Search this forum" function.
BTW, bimmer = BMW car, beemer = BMW motocycle, beamer =

If the park assist doesn't light up (ie not powering on) it can be one of a couple possibilities. Start with the fuses to see no one pulled it (lazy owners do that rather than addressing the problem). There's plenty of info floating around here, but take some time to search through the site as well.....you'll be surprised how well your efforts are rewarded!

Oh, and btw, welcome aboard!

If you think you're going to have lots of questions...help us help you better by creating a permanent signature (click the USER CP link at top right of page) that includes your model/model year/build date. That way if its engine, transmission, option pkg, or build date specific, we can supply you with the correct information or post links or diagrams etc that are specific to your X5.

There are 7 engines, multiple transmissions, and many changes along the production run from 1999-2006...you can find the build date (month/year) on the MFG label located on the driver's door jamb.

(you can see the 12/05 build date on my MFG label in the image below)

Make sure that you have BT capability...it was only offered with the premium pkg or BMW ASSIST. If you do have the BT module, look in your owners manual binder to see if you have the BT owners manual booklet...check to see if you have the card that has the Pass Key Code...you will need it to "sync" your phone to your X5.

(Bluetooth availability chart)

TIP: KL R & KL 15 = (ignition position 1 & ignition position 2)
