Dear all, after my saga with my steering wheel airbag removal ( i wanted to replace steering wheel trim and mechanic made a mess of removal of airbag damaging connectors in process) I am pleased to inform you all that the connector/harness on my 2004 sports steering wheel (and costs upwards of 100euros from bmw and nowhere to be found on ebay, try searching you will see) CAN be replaced/substituted with the cable from older sports steering wheel that is also found on bmw e46 models.....see all relevant pics....only difference is colours of cabling and also it is slightly longer.
I just paid 20 euros to have it and airbag and trim re-connected and airbag sensor reset at a car electrician shop, bmw dealers no matter where i asked could not tell me if it would fit and work, yet it does! zippee dooo dahhhh

PS realoem pics of the aforementioned harnesses are total rubbish and DO not correspond to way the harnesses look (bmw said their error when i asked why as on bmws systems the same pics appear)
