Smile Update on our 4.8is adventure!

Hey everyone!

It's been a few weeks since I last posted on here, but a lot has been going on with our new (to us) X5!

The truck was delivered to us from its previous owner and you could tell he took care of the truck... Here's a photo from the first time we saw the X5 (all snowy and salty!)

Before the truck was delivered we had it serviced at an independent BMW repair shop where we had some general maintenance done and a trailer hitch installed

The day after the X5 was dropped off we drove it from CT to PA and back just to make sure everything worked perfectly on the truck... We noticed the transmission would slip and slam into 3rd and 4th under heavy throttle. We had the truck checked out and had the transmission and transfer case rebuilt (ouch!).

After that we had the Sirius XM radio fixed and installed an AUX port, and just after we pulled in the garage after having that fixed we realized we never tried the sunroof! Well it opened just fine, and then wouldn't close. So we manually closed it and pulled the fuse so we can't re-open it (the cover for the sunroof still works)

We had a great opportunity to test out the X5 in the snow and cold weather during a winter storm in CT (got well into the negatives but snapped a pic at -2)

So far the experience with the X5 has been great! We knew that going into this we would have to spend a lot of $ to get this thing in tip top shape and there are still a few squeaks coming from the rear tailgate that we are tracking down, but it's worth it for this very special vehicle. Something of this size shouldn't accelerate, corner, and brake like it does! Too much fun

Kyle

I was just pulling out of the garage and we live in a wooded area, mostly at night I use high beams. I usually drive it in manual mode so I can keep the revs low while it's cold. I noticed after the tranny was rebuilt, it holds gears a bit longer than I'd like when it's cold.

The trailer hitch was an aftermarket one, wanted to do an OEM one but there is a big back order on them!

how big of a load are you planning on pulling? depending on the hitch, you might want to keep an eye on the load...

I was thinking the same thing. Just a small snowmobile trailer. Nothing too heavy.

Not sure exactly, but it definitely needed to be rebuilt.
