LICENSE PLATE LIGHTS

I have a 2003 x5 3.0. The tray that holds the license plate bulbs are inop on the right side. I tried cleaning the corrosion, but still inop. What is this part called and where can I find it and how do I remove and install?

If you are up for some small wire soldering you can remove the light tray holder (also has the truck release button) and check which wire is not conducting from the plug. In my case the passenger side bulb conductor to ground (pin2) was shot. I used some small 14 guage wire to carry over the ground from the other socket.

Each bulb has one pin and a ground
Trunk release has a pin and ground

Here is a bad photo of which pins I the plug went where.

I didn't dream this up but rather someone here on forum mentioned doing the same (thx forum!)

You can just swap out the new parts to your old trim and then don't have to paint it.

Really? Last time I replaced mine it looked like it was all sealed up. How do you get the switch out?

Same way they put it in. You would have to remove the wires from the connector with a special tool.

The micro switch can be purchase separately.

Item 31.
