Fumoto Oil Drain Valve
For those interested, a Fumoto, with extension, installed in the drain hole of an E53 [M54 3.0L]. Nice fit, protected by that stout shield, and will make the next oil change neater and faster.

I change oil by sucking oil out from dipstick guide tube.
Quicker, cleaner, after all just easier.

I've used the Fumoto's on quite a few vehicles over the years and always found them trouble-free when installation space permits. I was a little concerned about clearances on the X5, but your pic has given me the motivation to check it out a little more closely.

I have 4 cars and was going to do Fumotos on all of them but them decided to buy the metal Harbor Freight extractor for 139.99 less 20% off.
Thanks for posting this since I also have an e53 with the m54 engine. |

Regarding the oil extractor, I have always been suspicious...perhaps you can enlighten me.
The dipstick on an X5 (obviously varies depending on engine). Where does the tube enter the sump? When inserting the suction tube into the sump, how do you know whether you are getting anywhere near the ACTUAL bottom of the sump, and therefore extracting all the waste oil? (Using drain plug, it's pretty obvious you are working on effectively the lowest point.) I'm asking because I'm interested, and hey - if there is a simpler way to run a railroad, I'm in!

WOW! It's like operating a drinking water fountain!
I wonder how will it perform during harsh/extreme weather condition. Thanks for sharing.. learning something everyday!

Yeah mate, I can't access those videos at work, they just appear to be "how to's" to me. Whether or not they answer my questions - have to wait and see.

OP...Be careful with that extension. I purchased the same setup a few years ago and the extension bit just snapped off while I was just hand-tightening it onto the pan with half of the extension stuck to the pan. Thought I had to get a towed to the dealer to have it removed, but luckily was able to get the broken piece off. Needless to say, I returned everything and bought an extractor...been using that ever since. Looks like those Fumoto stuffs are made of soft brass.
