I can agree that if you bought the X new and are having problems you can blame the X.

Used cares are an entirely different story. I got mine cheap, it needed some work. I don't blame the car though, I blame the previous owner for neglecting it and not staying on top of things.

So far the only time my car has not gotten me to point B was when the alternator went. Other than that it has started and drove like a champ on a daily basis. That with 149k on it now.

Having done dozens of 1100 mile trips (at over 70 mph average speed, 1 stop for gas) between TX & FL, I've found the X to be the most comfortable sport oriented vehicle for the 15 hr drive. Even done a few runs with a 6k lb cargo trailer and enjoyed the trip (not chasing trailer sway).

1.4k in the last 4 years???? You are one of the few lucky owner.

This week only:
New batterie : 200$
Oil coolant seal leaking: 850$ +TX = 1K
5 Litre of oil to get back home after noticing the major oil leak: 55$

This past year:

Front struts : 1000$
Labor for struts: 450$
Actuator Gear : 150$ (did it myself)
Sensor problem somewhere: still not solved.

A few more things here and there that I forget for a grand total of :

3K this year. I have NEVER put this much money in repairs on any of my cars BMW or not.

Just another fact. Our 50k dollar plus cars are now 10k dollar cars in most cases.

Although I'm pissed at my X this week, argggggg I know when it comes back from the dealer it'll be love all over again. Addicted!

That's why there are so many newbies on this forum. The price has dropped that even pimple faced kids working at McDonald can afford to buy a X.

To maintain the X is another story. They lack the cash or the knowledge or both to fix their X.

If you look at the forums the newer car forums hardly have anyone on the forums whereas this forum has the most.

Time for a new Audi SQ5.....

That will drive ownership costs thru the roof. My X has been to a Dealer once (alignment) in the 4 years I've owned it. I DIY everything to keep costs under control/

The easiest way to control cost on a out of warranty X5 is DIY.

I talked my wife into buying our X back in March after her Grand Prix was totaled in an accident. We didn't want a car payment so we bought this which now has 96k on it. I have done the cluster, battery, FSR, both CV axles and now I have a slight oil leak and when its super cold I get an antifreeze drip from a hose up by the radiator. I didn't expect it to be this much of a headache and if it keeps up it wont be my headache for much longer. It is however very comfortable and drives like a dream .

BTW I've done all repairs myself.
