Door Speakers Not working
On my way to work the door speakers stopped working all together, front doors and rear, i have the pillars and tweeters working fine. im torn on if its the amp or the speakers. ive read up on a few posts from cisco and others. the plug to the amp had some corrosion which i cleaned with contact cleaner. before i take apart the doors, what are your thoughts on what it might be ? i may just end uo getting the bavarian upgrade but i want to narrow it down to the source,

Do you have sound from other speakers?
If not, your amp is toast. It happen to my e39 a few years ago. One day worked great, the next day it was quiet in the cabin. Amp died suddenly overnight.

I just replaced my driver side front and rear speakers about a month ago, i thought it was a bit strange that the one side works fine and the other dont at all. before i bought anything i took the speakers on the passenger side and pluged them in on the driver side to see if it was the speaker or the amp wiring etc. they worked it was the speakers. i find it strange that all four dont work i think it may be the wiring like stated above...

Tone the speakers at the amp connection individually. This will tell you if the speakers are bad or not. I have a feeling its something else tho.

Both of my two front door speakers, and one of my four rear door speakers (one of the woofers), are not working. I removed the front speakers and connected them directly to a home stereo -- they work. So, I am thinking problem is not the speakers. Tried disconnecting/reconnecting/jiggling the electrical connectors at the amp, but nothing changed. I have the 10 speaker system (or is it 12?). The speakers on the dash and the subwoofers in the trunk are working fine. Also both rear door tweeters and one rear door woofer is working. Wondering if anyone has been here before, or if you have any good ideas on troubleshooting, that would save me from having to go through the whole system inch by inch? Any known history of the amp or radio units causing this sort of thing? Locations of cable junctions/connectors or relays, etc. which might be suspected in something like this? Thanks!

it is hard to determine a cause of the issue remotely but some brainstorming might point in the right direction...
if one speaker goes kaput, it can be anything, from a bad channel in the amp to wiring to bad speaker... when you have two speakers gone kaput at the same time, the first thing is to figure out what is common to both of them... in your case, you have several speakers gone bad - front and rear doors... the common spot for those speakers start in the wire bundle somewhere past the B-pillar and all the way to the amp... unless you can locate a mouse that choked to death on wires, i would say, the problem is probably closer to the amp, and if we assume the LEFT and RIGHT doors are acting up, the problem location is further narrowed down to spot where the left and the right harnesses for the speakers meet, and in this case, it is within 1/2 foot from the amp... concentrate your search in that area, and you sure should be able to find the problem... |

Thanks. I can certainly use the help brainstorming, as well as the inspiration. I haven't tracked down where the left & right side wiring harnesses junction together yet, but I intend to. I might first try probing the amp pins or terminals with the leads from a known good 8 ohm stereo speaker, to verify output from the amp. There is a wiring diagram in the Bentley manual, but I'm not for certain yet if the wire color codes match my setup. Going to study it to see if I can ID the wires/pins which feed the speakers that aren't working.
Kind of glad it's not the speakers, hoping it's not the amp, but really not looking forward to troubleshooting these darned cables! I'll post on my progress, or the lack thereof.

A minor update to my thread. I took off the passenger speaker cover , and pushing In th speaker seemed to give me a faint sound coming from the speaker. Going to open the doors tommorow and have a look. I think its the common wire connection at the speakers .
