Before you open up the intake manifold it might be worth having a peek with a scope camera if you have one or can borrow one. If you can see it you can retrieve it with a $10 part grabber.

As for the small bolt, I don't recall any bolts on the DISA valve that would be inside the manifold. What you found was the pin (I hope).

Replaced the DISA with OEM unit, car runs smooth. I'm not pulling the IM off to look for it. The flap is either buried deep inside the manifold or it could have been removed by the previous owner/owners

seriously contemplating on trading the X5 in.

Got my X5 7-8 months ago and was doing a list of repairs/maintenance decided I would rebuild the Disa Valve....Well to my surprise it wasn't even functional last owner had the flap removed along with all of the plastic pieces and sealed off with black caulking. Funny thing is it never threw any codes. It was just connected to ''trick'' computer that it was ''functioning''. Could be the same case with you + the seal going bad.
