2006 X5 N62 Water pump Notes
- I did not drain the engine yet. In case there was trouble, I wanted to be able to put it all back together and drive if I had to. I can't think of any scenario where this would come into play, but...
- In addition to the upper hose spyder and the lower hose, there are 4 other hoses easily assessable at this time, make sure you purchase them all if you are doing a hose job.
- In addition to the water hoses, two hoses from the power steering reservoir are also easy to reach now.
- You will need a short Torx T60 to remove the main belt
- You will need a short Torx T50 to remove the secondary belt (via the center bolt)
- You will need a long (3" or so) Torx T40 to remove the harmonic balancer
- Might as well spin each tensioner and check for objectionable sound while you are here.
- The old hoses do not require strength to get them off. They require strong thin bladed flat screwdrivers to wedge between the parts of the connector to pry them off.
- Taking the electric fan off is not necessary if you have small nimble hands - but it only takes a minute or so to get it off.
- Don't toss the old water pump without first transferring the temperature sensor. You will need a 7/8" combination.
- Of course you shouldn't even think about tightening anything on an aluminum block without a torque wrench.
