Repairs going forward
So, I have a 2005 X5 4.4 with sports suspension, having bought it as a certified vehicle 4 years ago. It has 66,000 miles on it. I just had a new sunroof cassette/seals installed, with BMW covering parts and I covered labor. Without going into details, about $5500 had been spent over the last 16 months on water damage from a leaky sunroof, which included the replacement of electronics. Just also finished rebuilding the font end, and am about to place new tires on the car. Over the life of my owning the car, I am estimating that another $5-6000 or so was spent on non-routine maintenance. Can anyone let me know what repairs I might expect going forward, other than routine maintenance? I was hoping to keep the car going at least to 150,000 miles, but am having second thoughts about keeping the car after hearing about an engine rebuild need for an X5 owned by a friend. The car has 110,000 miles and drinks oil weekly. I also recall reading that these cars have tranny problems that can be quite expensive to repair. Thanks for any insights. Note that I do really like the car.
