Have the INA-W910 installed in mine and love it - bluetooth, HD radio, nav, CD, usb for the iPod

Had the W900, but the latest software update crashed it, so they sent a W910 to replace it. Alpine really was quick to service it and when that did not work, quick to send a replacement.

A definite option for those that want to get rid of the old technology and have all that you need for great tunes & nav

Im also looking at the one that has the "factory" appearance that is sold on eBay for about $385. This Alpine goes for $420 new on eBay, so they are neck in neck for pricing. I just need to look at the options they both offer and flip a coin. I would like to retain steering wheel control of stations and volume, although its not a deal breaker. Bluetooth and Pandora are key for me. I'll probably update the one in my E38 as well eventually, the Bluetooth (OEM) doesnt work that well and it takes a brick+ sized module each time to add a function, like factory TV. Which it has - now its all nice and neat in one unit...love it.

Heres the one Im considering in addition: 7" BMW E39 E53 Car GPS Navigation DVD Player iPod Stereo Bluetooth Touch Screen | eBay

They also upgraded a top of the line back up camera, they said the cheap ones go bad in a few years and cloud up, that was and extra $250.

The place I'm using has been around for 30 years same owners and no kids doing installs.

You can read some reviews here from Crutchfeild.

I'm interested in how they interfaced with your existing speakers/amp, etc.

Did you have DSP?

I had a few minutes today so here is something quick. I have not used it a lot yet, this X5 is a winter car for me.

If your a hard core, has to be BMW look this is probably not for you. I think it looks fine and matches well and all pictures do look much better in person. The plastic surround matches the other plastic in texture and look, its a BMW X5 E53 kit. They remove the CD changer & radio and wood cover. You can make the lights/background orange to match the other instruments but it's mostly blue. There is a small squre antenna they mount on the corner of the dash and you can hardly see it. If you don't have a black dash you notice it more.

The operation of the nav is an 10
Music quietly and adjustable & user friendly 9
Blue tooth operation 9
Back up camera 10 but it looks ugly and obtrusive.
Speaker phone-hands free 10
DVD-CD 9

This is all touch screen, no voice recognition.

You can have up to 4 phones paired, each phone you can set up a list of favorites for that user. This unit is far better than Mercedes and Lexus offer as an all in one message center. I have both cars to compare to. It's pretty much endless what you can do with it. When your older like me you don't have time to use even half the functions. I'm not a geek with this stuff, just giving a brief overview.

I found out I had the wrong model number on my initial post, this is the model number linked, click on Crutchfield link below-I did not buy it from them. I paid $799 installed. Antenna for Satellite & Nav was $100 and the backup camera was $150.

I'm not crazy about the way it sticks out and if you don't have a black car it will look funny. This is the only camera that will last they sold me from Alpine.

If you like it, then good for you! For me the head unit is too small for the bezel.

I just installed an android head unit made by AVINUSA. It's pretty sweat, had a few bugs to work out but I got it all up and running now. I have yet to made a thorough review but here are some pics (these pics suck, will show better ones soon)

I agree about the surround- but it looks better in person. What this Alpine can do and the way it works far outshines the large surround. I have many Garmin and Factory GPS's and this is by far the best. Besides all the other functions it does very very well. Your unit does look far better but had older BMW navs and they sucked and I'm sure the other BMW functions are limited. Everything is a trade off, never get what you really want

Your def. right about that, there's always something that doesn't work or you did not get...

The drawbacks with android is that you run too many apps simultaneously and it will lag and run slow. That's the only thing I miss with the OE Nav, never any loading issues. I am still happy with mine, just need to remember to close apps when your done using them rather than going back to the home screen and keeps all the apps running in the background. I realize now that these pics suck!

For better pics and info on the AVIN head unit for the X5 and E39, go to this thread in the mobile electronics forum:

This looks really like factory! I wonder how it compares to Dynavin which I'm considering to replace OEM nav/DSP headunit. How is the radio reception? Is it at par with OEM radio? That is critical for me. Dynavin is equal to OEM as far as radio is concerned.
