Cluster replacement: DSC, brake and ABS on now

Hi

Just replaced my 02 E53 diesel (3.0 Diesel sport) cluster for one off a 2006 (3.0 diesel) model. The cluster was damaged by previous owner who tried (failed !) to repair the faulty pixel cluster.

The replacement is working a treat all dials n gauges (which have the chrome trim) working but I now have 3 lights remaining on....

The DSC, brake warning light and ABS. I swapped back to the original cluster and the same lights on ! When I swapped them, I had key in ignition and probably on as I was checking to see that replacement worked before paying for it.

I tried a steering wheel reset - but didnt do anything (unless I havent done it right). Im hoping that there is a reset somewhere....

I appreciate (now) that cluster change is not straightforward... the tamper dot is pretty minor, compared to teh 3 other lights...

Is there a way to get this recoded ? If so using what system and how...

Can anyone advise..... its frustrating cos the clocks look fab and the pixels are all spot on...

cheers

gary

Have you tried to see if there are codes you can clear?

Could be the later cluster is not compatible with the earlier cars. Did you have the lights before the cluster replacement? Why didn't you get a cluster that is closer in year to your X? I would have just sent my cluster in to get it repair then to buy a new cluster and try to get it recoded to work with the car.

Hi

The ABS,brake and DSC not on before I swapped the cluster.

Pixel fix and 3 gauges to be repaired was going to be well over 300 euro... I thought a newer e53 replacement would be a better option....obviously not !

I knew the tamper dot would be present - and I can live with that, though I would prefer to see if it is possibel to have it coded to match the car.

The 3 lights are on even if I swap back to the original cluster....

I was hoping that there may be a way to recode it to work.... would this be possible with any of the tools available...are these needed to clear any codes, is it worth disconnecting the battery ??

cheers

Hi

Yes - I have driven the car with the replacement cluster.

All gauges working (previously no fuel, speedo, temp !).

Pixel display working fine, very clear... its displaying all commands from on board computer fine, trip meter, odometer working but has donor mileage on but working ok with the red dot next to it..

Overall - working great......apart from the 3 lights on all time.
I dont think I tried to do a steering wheel reset with the old cluster back in ...so I might try that tommorrow to see if it does reset....

I was hoping that there may be a recoding possibility....

cheers

Hi took out the donor cluster and replaced with original one.

The 3 lights reset once I turned the steering wheel LT/RT..... so issue clearly related to the donor cluster.

Below are the manufacturer codes off the two clusters....can the donor be recoded to remove the 3 lights ?

Cheers

An update..........................SUCCESS :-)

I contacted an indy BMW garage, BLOOMFIELD MOTORS, DUBLIN 8 who code systems. They were able to code the 2006 cluster to my 2002 E53. Not only were they able to get rid of the 3 lights (ABS,Brake and DSC) but were able to match VIN number too - so now I have no tamper dot !!!!...... I think this is the first thing that has actually worked on this car. Thanks Dave/Alan from Bloomfield Motors...
