Please help I'm stuck on my hood! Oil pressure light!

Just pulled in parking lot to ski. And my stop oil pressure light came on. Oil is boot half quart low but that should not trigger this. Maybe oil sensor? I don't know. Is ok to drive home if I have oil in it and this light turns on
? Not sure what to do. Help please

May be just cause its low and was at an angle, or a glitch.

This happened to me when starting the car, i just shut off restart, and didnt come back on.

Should be fine but what i said above is what probably happened. Add more oil as soon as you can.

Just like windows.....sometimes these trucks just need a good ol'fashioned Reboot! If it comes back after insuring proper oil level you may have a faulty sensor (its been known to happen) or less likely, something serious at play.

Keep us posted.

if your oil is extremely thick and the oil filter is clogged by not having oil changes regularly this will happen. and if that oil light stays on don`t drive it just incase . it could be a miss reading but if its not you can seriously damage your engine.

Open circuit will trigger sensor. So most likely the connector is loose or corroded or bad sensor.

reason I said don`t drive it it happened to me the 1st day I drove the x of the lot ,oil indicator light came on and the engine stalled and threw a code saying camshaft sensor fault, took it an indy that only works on bmws ,checked the oil right away and did an oil filter change immediately ,the oil filter was plugged solid with thick oil and he said that was the problem and if I kept driving it the engine would of starved with oil not flowing and it would have been a disaster. all good now though no more oil light comming on. so don`t ignore this light.

Well I started my x5 for the ride home worrying all day bad having anxiety about this. Drove a two hour drive and the light never came on again or the message. I am over due for a oil change. But not sure what triggered this. Hmmm

I hope it's nothing....I would not drive it until it gets checked. You would have to plug on or screw in an external oil pressure gauge to start.

My experience with the same problem, my light was flashing on and off. I dropped the oil pan, was easy and I found little pieces of oil filter paper stuck in the oil pump. Awhile back someone made a filter..Bosch maybe? that had a mesh paper cover on the outside of the filter...the paper mesh was breaking off and ending up in the pan and pump. The prior owner used cheap filters and probably never changed his own oil.

The oil pumps are bullet proof but you never know hat the previous owner did.

if i were you get the oil change done with full synthetic oil and a good oil filter might be a little more expensive than conventional oil but its worth it in the long run.
