Self Level Susp Inactive Woes

Hi,

Ive no doubt there are reams of threads on this - but Im not great with PCs...so apologies in advance if its a routine problem.

Had this message appearing on/off - seemed to reset when I restarted the car. Battery died the weekend when away so I changed it for a new one - now this message is present constantly and rear of car is low and doesnt rise.

It a 2002, 3.0 diesel sport with air at rear only.

Ive checked the 7.5 and 30 amp fuse in boot area - all OK. When I replace the 7.5 fuse the pump in the air tank makes a 3 second buzzing noise....but doesnt really seem to engage.

Is there anything else I can check before I take it for diagnostics check, a colleague suggest is the air pump thats gone...

Any help appreciated, boy this is turning out to be a very expensive motor !

Cheers

gary

I had the self level inactive warning before my alternator went.

Considering the fact that your battery died shortly after it wouldn't surprise me if your alternator wasn't charging properly. Get the car started and run the voltage test with the OBC.

Hi

Thanks for suggestion Ill check the voltage...

Just a thought, could it be the EHC control module ???

The reason I ask is that recently the top tailgate has spontaneously opened when I have been waiting at traffic lights and I see that there is a K bus circuit to the EHC from the tailgate...

Long shot - but could it be this module thats now stopped - how could I check it ???

I believe the self level controle module is behind the glove box. That might only be on two axle air setups though.

Hi

I think its on the drivers side in the well next to the air suspension unit, for rear air suspension.

Any idea how to test it or what the symptoms would be if this failed ?

Cheers

Hi
Is it possible to jump the ECH to manually try the air compressor ?
There is a vid on the net, where a chap jumps the pump and inflates his air bags, I can't really tell what pins he is jumping...

Can anyone advise?

To recap, I've checked the boot fuses which are 0k.
The pump seems to make a noise for 30 seconds then stops with no lift of the rear suspension.

Is this likely to be the ECH unit ?

Are there any other fuses or relays that I need to check...

Really need help on this as gotta get to work on Saturday

Cheers

Gary

You need the correct diagnostic software to figure out what the problem is.

Good news, it's 80 bucks for the software and cable on ebay.

Yeah, turn the ignition on, open up the spare tire well and add weight to the back of teh car. If the pump doesn't turn on you have your answer.

Ricky Bobby will become famous soon enough
I'd sit on the tailgate and see if the pump kicks on.
