What transmission do I have? 3.0D
Just trying to establish what transmission is in my car It's a 2005 3.0D Real OEM based on my VIN says I should have a GA6HP26Z - RealOEM.com * Diagram Selection I have been under the car and the transmission is stamped with (GA)6HP26X (Can provide pic) I can't find any info on a GA6HP26X so I'm just wondering what the 'X' is all about. I can tell that this transmission has come off at some stage as there are score mark on the bolts - so want to make sure that the right transmission is living there, not some lesser replacement. Reason being, I'm trying to establish the max torque rating of the transmission as I plan to chip it. This extract from the manual says a GA6HP26Z is designed to take 600nm - which is bang on what the chip says it will deliver. Have found this on the ZF site confirming that the 6HP26X will take 444 ft lbs or 600nM.
http://www.zf.com/media/media/docume...8X_Catalog.pdf Looks like I answered my own question. Will leave it here for future reference as literally nothing came up on google.....only things in Russian and references to certain Land Rovers.

The ‘X’ means the casing is designed to mate with a transfer box. I mention this here : http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...-teardown.html
Though it varies depending on the torque converter used, the generation 1 transmissions had (maximum input) torque capacities of : 6HP19 = 400Nm 6HP26 = 600Nm 6HP32 = 750Nm (The early ‘basic’ 6HP26 came fitted with the W260 S converter with an input torque capacity of only 440Nm, to match the 5HP24, but the upgraded model used the W280 S converter, had more plates in the clutches and used a 4-planet carrier in the front epicyclic, which increased this to 600Nm) ![]() The generation 2 models have maximum input torque capacities of: 6HP21 = 450Nm 6HP28 = 700Nm 6HP34 = 850Nm again, this varies with the torque converter used) ![]() Phil |

Thanks Phil - great response.
Given you know a lot on the subject, what are your thoughts on pushing the engine torque figure up forward the max design rating of the transmission? I'm planning on doing a preventative change of the trans fluid beforehand (car is at 115k km or roughly 70 thou miles) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
