Bentley no help

I have to kill the power to my radio (2001 E53 X5) and I can't find the fuse location in my $100 book. Don't tell me I have to pull the spare tire out and do it at the battery, yikes.

The fuse locations are defined on the inside of the fuse panel cover.

Fuse panel in glove box and fuse panel in R/R storage compartment. You have multiple power sources to the radio, along with the I-Bus being powered. If doing wiring alterations, it's safer to kill power to the whole vehicle by disconnecting the negative cable. That way you don't inadvertently short a different component, like your amp. Yes, you'll have to pull your spare tire to disconnect the battery, but this is super easy to do using the load strap like it is meant to be used.

depends what you are trying to accomplish. if doing something other than removing the radio, its always safest to disconnect the battery. Too many interconnected electronics, that are sensitive to accidental shorts, live in modern BMW's.
