I just dropped $3k on my X5.. and I love it!

For all those out there who want to pity party the ole X5, I thought I'd add my latest maintenance fund withdrawal:

To get ready for my super dooper end of year South East tour to Miami (ok, West Palm), I dropped the 44k 4.8is off for a quick look-see. What'd we find?
  • Power steering hoses leaking- replaced and flushed.
  • Right side CV boot ripped. Replaced.
  • Installed the Aux audio in to the ashtray. (with the WiFi hotspot powered in the rear, say hello to Nexus 7-based Pandora.)
  • Finally got that 2nd transmission fluid service from 25k. (Full service with filter again at 55k)
  • Mounted and balanced my new Michelins. (yep -the tires were 1/2 the cost- and I LOVE em!)
  • Pre-emptive replacement of my ~3.5 yr old battery. In the last week, I'd needed two nudges- including a full meltdown of SLS, CE, and about every damn other light that flashes when the battery is sh!tting itself. Replace that MF'er.

The most exciting thing? My rear brakes are at about 20%. When that light starts to flash, I should be juuuust about ready for my big a$$ StopTechs. No, I don't NEED them. But I do love me some big ass brakes.

Feb 2014 will be 3 years with this X and 10 behind the wheel of my very own E53. If I could find another with under 10K and put it on ice for another 7 years, I would. I'd like to ride in an E53 till Mobile Tradition takes it on.

Does StopTech not offer a 15" front?

Wife and I are headed to Hallandale (north Miami) in a few weeks to spend the holidays with her 'rents. If I see a blue 4.8 I'll wave.

Ricky Bobby will become famous soon enough
Prop she sounds like she is in perfect running order, ready to hit the strip!

"Welcome to Miami" - will smith style lol!

Even with your low mileage i see a lot of items that are rubber that have been replaced (cv boot, PS hoses), which affirms my notion that it doesnt matter of the mileage, but rubber degrades over time and with our X's being 10 years old or more, have to pay attention to it, and you definitely do so wonderfully!

I wish I could find an '06 6-speed, sport package equipped, BSM E53 with factory navigation and lower miles and put it on ice myself, really cannot see myself driving anything else but an E53 for a long time!
