Did you lower the height on the new shifter from Rob? The UUC is height adjustable.
Or you could go ghetto and bore a deeper hole in the stock knob so it sits lower on the lever

For what it's worth you can find a black leather weighted bmw shift knob on eBay, it's an oem part I think from e30 but it looks like our knob.
Been meaning to ask you, the knob comes off separate on the boot and isn't attached to the boot assembly?

The BMW E46 ZHP shift knob is a popular weighted choice. It comes in 5spd and 6spd patterns on the top. I have one for my x5.
Shop around for the best price but here's an example BMW E46 M3 S54 3.2L ES#47397 ZHP Shift Knob - 6 Speed - 25117896886 ![]() Is black an absolute requirement? Another, more expensive, option is the Whalen Shift Machine. It's great. I have one in my M Roadster. I love it. You can get custom engraving. The only downsides are that it gets hot in direct sunlight (more a convertible problem) and cold in winter (wear gloves). It is a locking mechanism so it will never come off unless you want to release it. Whalen Shift Machine - Custom Shifters Not my picture, but I have the same engraving on mine. ![]() ![]() Hope this helps, -Carter

The ZHP knob is beautiful, I just have a huge problem putting anything with an ///M logo on a non- ///M vehicle. If it was an ///M sport package equipped vehicle it's another story, but you're right, black leather, OEM, and weighted, the ZHP knob is wonderful.
This is the factory weighted knob i spoke of, not sure what car originally came in: BMW Weighted Leather 5 Speed Shift Knob E30 M3 325i 325IS 325E 325ES 318i 318IS | eBay again, you could bore a deeper "hole" in the knob and allow it to sit lower on the stock lever as well to get it to sit shorter. Did that in my VW days, worked pretty good I must say.

I have a Momo Cobra knob with an aluminum 6 finger sleeve/timing pin (custom CNC machined at the Aerospace Co where I work. TRUE aerospace CAD designed/machined
)Actually had the shifter rod (E46) and knob internal CMMed to generate the solid model/surface data. I then generated the part program data for the 5 axis Micron CNC milling machine and lathe (6061 T6 alum alloy). It took around 6 hrs to CMM parts, produce solid model/part programs, machine parts, deburr, assemble and install in knob. It took around 6 hrs. In the pics you can see the 6 fingers that locate in the BMW OE shaft groove and the timing pin that slips into the shift rod top slot. This is now a direct/tight snap on knob for BMW application. This knob is 3" tall and hella weighted, 11oz. Will sell for knob cost, $100. (the 6 hrs of shop time/materal to produce the sleeve is free!!!)
