sorry to bump an old thread.

I have the 4x4 light, when i bought this car, I did see the triage of lights 4x4,dsc,brake once during my intial test drive. I also heard the clicking from the actuator gear when I turn off the car. Now after 5 days of ownership, the clicking is gone, but the 4x4 light is still present. Does anyone think that the gear has turn itself 180 degree's on to working teeth or just so worn that there no more contact between actuator gear and worm gear??

Regardless, I've already ordered a new gear to put in. I'm just wondering if anyone had the clicking go away on its own. obviously there is still a fault. DIS shows DSC faults as 5eb1 (steering angle sensor) and 5f3a transfer case, Steering angle was fixed doing a lock to lock.

Ricky Bobby will become famous soon enough
Flip the gear yourself by spending 5 mins under the car and let us know if it helps. Its super quick to do from what others have told me

4x4 lights when I comet the on bumpy corners

Good evening, I'm new to this forum. I have got a UK 2006 BMW X5 E53 3.0d automatic. i have own the car for 2 years. Every summer that i own it, i took it on holiday. Last year before i set of for the holiday i did a general engine service(engine oil filter, engine oil, air filter, pollen filter and front left lower control arm). After I had the garage to check for any codes. I set of for the 1500miles journey for my home country. The car performed well(drive able)but I noticed after I changed the pollen filter there were no heat coming through the vents when turning the wheel to 3 red heat dots with the motor warmed up. 2 weeks in the holiday when i was taking sharp corners on normal driving speed the 4x4 warning light comes on and would cut out the accelerate. if i don't take my foot completely off the accelerater the car wouldn't accelerate. After calling a friend that is a mechanic back in the uk, he said I should of done a wheels alignments /tracking. I went to a modern tracking garage. They found out my wheels alingments was off on the front but ok on the rears. After doing the wheel alignment. The 4x4 amber warning light still comes on if I turn on a sharp bumpy corner or the steering wheel quick right to left, left to right the light still comes on. After 6months I still have the same 4x4 light problem but it would light up if the car is not jerked left to right or right to left and on level ground. If in a corner is uneven the light comes on. I searched some forums but the symptoms weren't like mine. I don't know if their are any sensors faulty and sending false data.

No idea if this helps or not but .... 2 months before my yawl sensor fried I had intermittent dsc light on. The intermittency appeared to be related to someone slamming the door, then the dsc light would stay on for a few drive cycles. Was very soon after my yawl sensor fried and required replacement so I am left to guess that the hard jarring of the slams helped raise the issue of my bad yawl sensor (and I mean slams like you stop and tell at the car service guy who sat in the passenger seat)

Could be any of the sensors for the system too. Wheel, steering angle, yawl. Do you have access to pull codes or look at live data from gt1 while recreating the issue ?

Good you posted here as someone else with more info can chime in too.

Unhappy

Update on my 4x4 DSC Light , yesterday night driving my x5 doing 50mph there two nocks coming from the rear end between a short period of time then the car starting shacking on the rear like I had a flat tyre. Stopped at a petrol station check the underneath of the car. Nothing loose on the diff had a friend under the car as I drove a few inches foward and he said the propshaft spam then the car moved and there were two nocks coming from the diff, one on each side. I start on driving it back home. A few 20m later a loud nock and the car wouldn't go over 5mph. There weren't no smell of burned diff oil or nocking
. Today I had the car recovered home but drove it a few meters there weren't no noise at all coming from the rear end. I'm not sure if the diff is gone as there were no lights on, on the dashboard. So I'm having the car off the road until I find what happen. Any opinions where I could start looking are welcome.

I've been wanting to change my steering angle sensor for a while and could never get pass the stage where the steering rod has to be pushed into the floor. Do you mind telling me how you did this?

Thanks in advance.

Bringing back this old thread, to remind all of the value of Xoutpost's search feature. After completing my front suspension overhaul, I first had the DSC/4x4 yellow light intermittent, and now constant. I'll take her off the battery to recycle to see if a reset changes things, and if not get her scanned to look for this tale-tell code. Price shown for the yaw sensor these days [Bosch] is $300 or a lot more. Nice summary by junkycosmos .....
